It was a busy weekend for a handful of the Union area wrestling teams as they competed in tournaments on Saturday.
Mt. Pleasant took the trip up to Grinnell on Saturday to compete in the Grinnell Tiger Duals.
The Panthers finished sixth in the competition featuring Grinnell, Bondurant-Farrar, East Marshall, Cedar Rapids Prairie and Webster City.
Mt. Pleasant was defeated by Grinnell 60-12, Bondurant-Farrar 81-0, East Marshall 54-18 and Cedar Rapids Prairie 75-6.
Bowen Davis and William Birdsell picked up a pair of wins on the day at 145 and 182. Jared Dorothy and Franklin Tousigant each picked up wins as well at 152 and 285.
Washington competed in the Mount Vernon Invitational over the weekend.
As the team, the Demons finished seventh as a team in the 17 team field.
The Demons had one winner on the day, in the form of Chase Greiner at 160.
Aaron Boone took second at 120 and Colley Billingsly finished third at 220. Curtis Stender was fourth at 195.
Sigourney-Keota also competed in the invitational. They finished ninth in the meet.
Reanah Utterback was the Cobras highest placer, taking second at 106. Reid Molyneux and Jack Clarahan each finished third at 152 and 170. Jake Moore finished third.
Van Buren County, Cardinal and WACO were all at the Tri-County/English Valleys tournament on Saturday.
Van Buren finished fourth in the competition with 136.5 points, WACO took seventh with 63 points and Cardinal finished 10th with 15 points.
The Warriors had two winners on the day. Dirk Boyles and T.J. Jirak each finished first at 145 and 126.
Colt Boyles took second at 106. Elijah Westercamp and Noah Cochran were third-place finishers at 195 and 220. Corbin Camp was fourth at 132 and Darrin Coffman took fourth at 160. Tyler Stoltz finished fifth at 152.
For WACO, Louden Huisenga was a first-place finisher at 160. Drew Diers (220), John Mclaughlin (126) and Braden Stafford (170) all finished fifth. Johnathan Heather took sixth at 285.
Cardinal’s Isaac Cox was a third-place finisher for the Comets at 285.
Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestled as well. The Wildcats competed with Colfax Mingo, Burlington, Notre Dame, Des Moines Hoover-North and Hudson.
The Wildcats defeated Colfax-Mingo 51-18, Des Moines North-Hoover 60-12, but fell to Hudson 39-36 and Notre Dame 46-30.
Jacob Nelson (106), Ty Scorpil (120), Bowen Thomson (126), Sheaden Adams (145), Dante Zuniga (152), Kiley Kaalberg (170), Ethan Palmer (195), Kai Malone (220) and Russel Coil (285) were all winners against Colfax-Mingo.
Against Hudson, Nelson, Scorpil, Thomson, Zuniga, Kaalberg, Malone and Coil were winners as well.
The Wildcats lost just two matches, 152 and 113, against Des Moines North-Hoover with the previous winning, including Cole Storm (170), Ethan Palmer (195) and Preston Prior (132).
Pekin was another Union area squad to compete over the weekend. The Panthers competed in the Riverside Wrestling Invitational, finishing 15th.
For the Panthers, Logan Baker (170), Gavyn Brown (160), Ryan Doud (195) and Zachary Doud (120) all competed in the meet, but did not place.
