Another trip, another broken record.
Winfield weight-lifter Cozy Cozine recently returned from the WUAP World Bench Press Championships in Atlanta, Ga., where he broke the age 55-59, 275-pound class World Record with his opening attempt of 457 1/4 pounds.
?Since the world record was 451, I decided to open with 457 1/4 and go for the record ? that is why I went to Atlanta,? Cozine said. ?I made an easy lift.?
After breaking the record, Cozine jumped up to 501 1/2 pounds.
?When lowering (the bar), I went past the vertical plane and lost the lift toward my stomach,? Cozine said. ?Good thing they had good spotters, (who took) the weight before I got hurt.?
He stayed with the same weight in his third and final lift, but had no success.
?It was not totally what I wanted, but I did win the worlds ? my 10th bench press world title ? and broke the world record,? Cozine said.
?The sun did come up today. So, hey ? not too bad for an old man from the little town of Winfield.?
