Wesleyan track competes at Mustang Open

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Iowa Wesleyan track and field teams traveled north to Cedar Rapids on Saturday to compete at the Mustang Open, hosted by Mount Mercy. The Tigers had seven Top-5 finishes.
The Tiger women’s team led the way with five finishers in the Top-5. This included one second-place finish by Bri Hunter, who threw the shot put 12.37 meters to take the silver.
Iowa Wesleyan had two Top-4 finishes in the 10,000-meter run. Lilly Garnsey finished the race in 46 minutes, 21.90 seconds to take third, and Allison Morris finished fourth, in 46:56.94.
Shermaine Preston gave the Tigers another third-place finish when she hit the sand at the triple jump in 9.41 meters. The Tiger women’s 4x400 relay team of Lidia Pamos, Morris, Faith Younce and Katelynn Denny took fourth place, in 5:22.59.
The Tiger men had two finishes in the Top-4. The best finish of the day went to the 4X800 relay team of Jabez Rivers, Marion, Brown, Logan Lucas and Kenny Tucker, which crossed the tape in 9:07.66.
The Tiger men had one Top-5 finish in the field. Conner Deutsch finished fourth place in the javelin, throwing it 40.25 meters.
Iowa Wesleyan will be back in Cedar Rapids on Friday at the Coe College Easter Open. That co-ed meet will begin at 3 p.m.
