Wesleyan women wrestle at National Duals
Tigers go 0-3 on the day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Iowa Wesleyan women’s wrestling team made its way south over the weekend for the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Multi-Divisional National Duals. The Tigers fell in three duals, falling 38-4 to Texas Wesleyan, 31-17 to University of the Cumberlands and 20-13 to Missouri Valley College.
The Tigers had just one winner in their first-round dual against Texas Wesleyan. 143-pounder Adaugo Nwachukwu scored a 13-0 technical fall over Texas Wesleyan’s Maryellen Lafferty.
After receiving a bye in the consolation bracket, the Tigers fell to University of the Cumberlands, but the Tigers did have four winners.
Zoi Smith picked up an 11-0 technical fall at 123 pounds, JoAnna Vanderwood won via a 16-5 technical fall at 130 pounds, Destiny Campbell pinned her opponent in 1:40, and Nwachukwu picked up another technical fall, winning 10-0.
The Tigers lost to Missouri Valley in a separate tournament and had three wins en route to seven-point loss.
Vanderwood and Nwachukwu both have 10-0 technical falls against Missouri Valley. Smith won by forfeit.
The Tigers’ next meet will be on Saturday when they head to Hastings, Nebraska for the Hastings College Open. That is set to start at 9 a.m.
