FT. MADISON - Some people make resolutions to improve in the new year.
Washington's Tristin Westphal-Edwards, who is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A at 182 pounds, just continues to be awesome.
Westphal-Edwards claimed the 150th victory of his high school wrestling career Thursday. He had two matches and won them both in the second round with a pin.
The Demons went 1-1, falling to Ft. Madison and defeating Mid-Prairie. Mid-Prairie also lost to Ft. Madison.
Washington trailed the Bloodhounds 33-16, but rallied to lead 36-33, before losing 39-36.
Westphal-Edwards came into his final season as a Demon needing 16 victories to hit the 150 milestone.
He achieved that when he pinned Ft. Madison's Diego Lozano in 2 minutes, 28 seconds.
Westphal-Edwards remembers competing against Lozano in youth wrestling tournaments early on in their careers but hadn't wrestled him yet in high school.
That wouldn't have affected his plan of attack anyway.
'I treat every match the same,” Westphal-Edwards said.
He wrestled the first match against the Bloodhounds.
'I knew Fort Madison was somebody we needed to beat in the (Southeast) conference,” Westphal-Edwards said. 'So I definitely wanted to get that pin.”
To get the fall, 'I used a bar arm and turned him over from there. He rolled into it, so that helped,” Westphal-Edwards said.
Both Washington and Mid-Prairie wrestle Saturday at Highland's tournament.
