Mt. Pleasant senior Trace White signed his letter of intent on Monday to attend Carl Sanburg College in Galesburg, Ill. White will play golf for the Chargers.
White has been a member of the varsity boys' team since he was a freshman. He was also a member of the 2017 team that advanced to the state meet.
'I've always loved golfing at Mt. Pleasant,” White said on Monday. 'As young as like, four or five, I've always been on the golf course.”
White says he had a number of colleges that he looked at, but that the visit to Galesburg made him realize where he wanted to go.
'I actually looked at a few colleges, but when my dad and I visited Galesburg, I went to Carl Sandburg and met with the coach for about an hour,” White says. 'He told us about the programs and what he does with his team, in season and offseason. I liked it when I was there.”
White will have one more spring at Mt. Pleasant under head coach Rob Zeglen, who says the thing that drives White to be as good as he is, is his competitive nature.
'Trace likes the competition,” Zeglen says. 'He doesn't ever back down and he's got a very good attitude, and he's very coachable. With harder competition, Trace really shines through.”
White saysd he is currently undecided in what he will study at college. He says he will take some general education courses while he figures out what he wants to major in.
