MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant senior Kynlee White was born to sprint.
The three-time state qualifier and two-time Drake Relays qualifier has made that apparent over her high school career, becoming a key part in a Panther girls track team that has risen back up to become a force again in Southeast Iowa.
Now, White will look to help out another school in the area, in Southeastern Community College.
White signed her letter of intent to attend SCC and join the women’s track team last week.
“Growing up, all I ever heard was ‘you’re so fast,’” said White. “Yes, I put in a lot of work to get to where I am today, but I like to say I was born fast.”
White says she started to see success as young as elementary school field day, and she has followed that all the way to the high school level, where Mt. Pleasant has become one of the best sprinting schools in Class 3A.
White says the decision to choose SCC had a lot to do with the ability to stay close to home, only 30 minutes away.
“I actually went all the way to Wisconsin and visited two huge schools there,” White said. “Then I realized, maybe I don’t want to be far away, and I don’t want to go to a big school either.”
White says she is undecided on what to study at SCC.
“That was one of the hardest decisions, just thinking about what I’m going to do,” White said.
What she hopes to do this spring is to celebrate another SEC title with the Panthers, and maybe make some more noise at the state tournament. The Mt. Pleasant girls track team dives into the action this month with outdoor season starting up.
