Washington High School's girls track team ran at the 44th Annual Timm Lamm Relays Tuesday and finished seventh among nine teams. The Demon boys competed at Wapello's Indian Relays and placed third.
Ashley Telleen was the top individual finisher for the Demons as she took second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 15.43 seconds. The 4x1 team was second in 53.29. The distance medley placed third with a time of 4:58.54. The 4x2 was fourth in 1:53.51. The 4x4 also placed fourth, finishing with a time of 4:46.59. Kelsey Pacha was fourth in the high jump at 4-foot-10 and placed sixth in the 100 in 13.3. Leak Marek was sixth in the 200 in 29.16. The 4x8 took sixth in 12:31.04.
'Our times are really starting to drop,” WHS girls coach Stefanie Haworth said. 'Tori Hinson had a great meet with personal records in all of her events. She had a great practice Friday and you could tell that things really started to click on what she needed to do to get her times to drop. Olivia Marek seemed like she got stronger every time she stepped on the track. She dropped her 100 hurdles time by almost a full second, had great splits in the sprint and distance medleys. She helped pull our distance medley into first in our heat and Lia Fillinger and Tori did a great job of running solid splits to win our heat and finish third overall with a season-best time. Fillinger had a great meet with solid splits in her relays and the open 800. I have been wanting to have Lia try the 800 a few different times and it finally worked out for her to run it tonight. She ran a great race and won her heat. I'm excited to see her run it a few more times and watch her time really drop.
'There was a lot of great competition tonight which helped us run fast. It was fun to see our times really drop and the kids are seeing all their hard work paying off.”
For the boys, Ethan Hunt won the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.07. Evan Horak was victorious in the 1600 with a time of 4:54.97 and second in the 3200 in 11:00.44. Lance Sobaski was third in the 3200 in 11:06.77. Mitchell Driscoll was second in the 400 in 50.85. Kasen Bailey leaped 6-foot to place second in the high jump and Wyatt Stout was third at 5-8. Lincoln Kleese was third in the 110 hurdles in 16.87. Adam Kael was sixth in the discus at 127-2, which was a personal best for him.
The 4x1 was second in 45.37 as was the shuttle hurdle with a time of 1:03.78. The 4x2 was fourth in 1:38.59.
'We tried some different things since prom was Saturday night and we run at Mt. Pleasant Thursday,” boys coach Steve Roth said. 'We focused on four events in the 400, 400 hurdles, shuttle hurdle and the 4x1 and got season-best times in all of those. Hunt and Driscoll were just outstanding in their races. Lincoln Kleese, Ben Schiefer, Spencer Sotelo and Cade Hennigan ran great in the shuttle and Sotelo, Luke Turner, Jacob Miller and Hennigan were awesome in the 4x1. Shelby Salow helps our high jumpers and we had a whole crowd watching Kasen and Wyatt finish second and third. That was great to see.”
