Wildcats fall to Fairfield
Despite a fast start, the Columbus Wildcats couldn?t hold off Fairfield on Wednesday night.
The Wildcat softball team faced off against the Trojans and scored the first two runs of the game, before falling 12-2 in five innings.
Three bunt singles helped Columbus take the lead, with Laura Mincks driving in an RBI on a groundout.

Despite a fast start, the Columbus Wildcats couldn?t hold off Fairfield on Wednesday night.
The Wildcat softball team faced off against the Trojans and scored the first two runs of the game, before falling 12-2 in five innings.

After that point, Fairfield took over with Ashtyn Drish going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Brynna Bowman hit a three-run homerun for the Trojans.
The Wildcats have fallen in back-to-back games after losing to Wapello on Tuesday night, 6-3, and have now lost three of its last four games.
Highland overwhelms IMS
A strong start for the No. 1 team in Class 2A was too much for Iowa Mennonite softball to overcome.
The Highland softball team scored seven runs in the first two innings, then cruised to a 9-1 victory on Tuesday night.
Kelsey Hora, Cheyann Adamson and Bailey Walsh each had two hits in the game, and Highland put up 10 hits on the day.
Walsh hit a homerun, and drove in three runs, while Courtnee Hahn (1-for-4) drove in two runs on the night.
Hora, Adamson and Bridget Murphy each scored two runs for the Huskies, while Hora and Murphy each stole two bases in the game.
Highland sits at 13-2 on the year, while IMS fell to 1-13.
The Huskies will head to Roland-Story for a tournament this weekend, while IMS will host Mediapolis on Thursday night.
Hawks sweep Tipton
The hot streak for Mid-Prairie softball continued on Monday night with a pair of quick games.
The Hawks shut out Tipton 10-0 and 12-0 to claim their seventh-straight victory and eighth win of their last nine games.
The Hawks are led by Amber Kral?s 50 RBIs (which is leading the entire state), while Alex Rath is batting .606 on the year, and leads the team with 38 runs; both numbers are good for fourth in the state.
After a rainout on Wednesday night, the Hawks will look to travel to Cascade on Thursday, before taking part in a tournament in Iowa City this weekend.
