After a season to remember, the Columbus Wildcat soccer team finished the year well represented on the Southeast Iowa Super Conference lists.
The Wildcats ran roughshod through the regular season, only losing one contest, coming in PKs after a scoreless game against Danville.
The postseason went much the same way, with the Wildcats cruising to their second state berth in program history, only to fall in extra time in the quarterfinals.
Helping Columbus to the strong, historic year was junior Erick Cantarerro, who set the school record in goals scored this year, notching a tremendous 30 goals in the year, also adding 17 assists.
Those numbers earned him first-team All-Conference honors, as he looks to continue to grow in his senior season.
Columbus? defense was a big reason for its success, with the Wildcats only allowing four overtime or regulation goals on the year, and they were assisted by two of its more talented athletes.
Ruben Paz and Adrian Santos also earned first-team All-Conference honors for their efforts on defense, while Paz also added nine goals and three assists. Santos had six goals and three assists.
Diego Sanchez (14 goals, 11 assists) was a second-team selection to the All Conference team, while Daniel Fuentez (one goal, one assist) and Bryan Solis (one goal, one assist) were given honorable mention honors.
IMS was also well represented on the All-Conference lists, with a pair of first-team selections.
Junior Cole Yoder made 61 saves on the year to earn the selection, joining junior Nick Yutzy, who scored two goals and had one assist.
Anthony Villatoro (five goals, 11 assists) was a second-team selection for IMS, while Cole Ours (two goals, four assists) and Reggie Borntrager (one goal, 15 starts) took honorable mention selections.
Highland had a second-team selection with keeper Patrick Wood, who made 145 saves with a save percentage of .759.
The Huskies saw Tereze Lanfair (three goals, one assist) and Kyle Castillo (one assist, 13 starts) earn honorable mention selections.
