Mid-Prairie won the first set of Monday?s Cedar Valley Conference volleyball match 25-21 over visiting Wilton, but the Beavers won the next three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-21 to rally for the victory.
?Our girls have come out fighting each and every night, and tonight was nothing different,? Mid-Prairie head coach Melissa Stumpf said. ?Winning Game 1 was huge for us. However, we came out sluggish and let them take the lead in Game 2. The girls did not give up, and took it to them in Game 3. Unfortunately, our lead slowly diminished, and Wilton took advantage of our serve receive errors. I am very proud of all 12 of my players. They all put their hearts into tonight?s game.?
Sophomore Taylor Kurtz led the Golden Hawks (5-8, 0-4 CVC) with 11 kills. Senior Jess Butters and junior Courtney Cayton added five kills apiece, and senior Kari Horesowsky had a pair of kills to go with 13 assists. Junior Courtney Shalla had seven assists.
Sophomore Ashley Sojka had a team-leading 15 digs, and sophomore Ashley Miller added 14 digs. Shalla had nine digs in the match, and Horesowsky had eight. Senior Mallory McArtor chipped in seven digs.
Miller also served four aces.
Mid-Prairie, which has now lost eight straight matches after a 5-0 start, travels to Washington for a non-conference match on Thursday.
?This loss hurt, but we are not letting this get us down,? Stumpf said. ?We are looking ahead now to our game against Washington on Thursday night. The girls know what it feels like to win, and they are hungry for more wins.?
