SIGOURNEY — The Winfield-Mount Union baseball team couldn’t pull the upset in the Class 1A Substate 5 first round on Monday night. The Wolves were knocked out by the hosting Savages 11-1 in five innings.
The Wolves couldn’t contain the Sigourney offense early. The Savages scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding four in the fourth and two in the fifth.
The loss ended the season for WMU, which went 2-23 on the year. Both of the Wolves’ wins came against Columbus.
Sigourney moved on to play in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday night against Notre Dame.
