Winfield-Mount Union mops Louisa-Muscatine

Winfield-Mount Union at Louisa-Muscatine
LETTS — Winfield-Mount Union made quick work of Louisa-Muscatine on Thursday night. The Wolves swept a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division matchup 25-15, 25-17, 25-6.
Melina Oepping gave the Falcons nightmares all night. The WMU junior finished the night with eight kills, eight digs and six service aces. Bradie Buffington put up eight kills of her own.
Keely Malone dished out 22 assists in the Wolves’ win. Keetyn Townsley co-led the defense with eight digs.
WMU is now 19-10 overall and 6-1 in the North. Louisa-Muscatine is 5-13, 1-5.
WACO falters at No. 1 Notre Dame
BURLINGTON — WACO was overpowered by the top team in Class 1A, as Notre Dame rolled 25-8, 25-3, 25-9.
The Warriors had just five kills on the day. Emma Wagler led the way with two.
Meredith Roth dished out three assists in the loss. Ellah Kissell had eight digs.
WACO fell to 16-11 overall and 2-5 in the division. Notre Dame is 31-8, 6-0.
Cardinal swept at No. 5 Holy Trinity
FORT MADISON — Cardinal improved in every game but the Comets couldn’t steal any against the fifth-ranked team in Class 1A. Holy Trinity won the SEISC South showdown 25-6, 25-9, 25-13.
Sydney Pickrell led the Comets with eight kills and 14 digs. Riley Bears dished out seven assists.
The Comets are now 4-20 on the year and 0-7 in the division. Holy Trinity is now 23-6, 4-2.
Keota bumps BGM in 4
BROOKLYN — Keota had to battle from a 1-0 set deficit in a South Iowa Cedar League matchup, but the Eagles got it done, winning 24-26, 25-17, 26-24, 25-22.
Taylor Kindred’s 11 kills paced Keota to the victory. Macie McDonald led the team with 14 assists, and Cassandra Swantz had 23 digs.
Keota improved to 7-14 overall and 2-6 in SICL play. BGM is 1-20-1 overall and 0-8 in league play.
Highland heaves Hillcrest
KALONA — Hillcrest managed to score more points on the evening, yet lost the North match to Highland 26-24, 15-25, 25-23, 25-23.
Esther Hughes had 12 kills and seven aces for the home court Ravens. Malia Yoder hit nine kills and 26 digs. Evelyn Gerber had 20 digs for Hillcrest (7-19, 3-5).
Highland is 4-3 North, 10-11 overall. highland plays in the 36th annual Washington tournament Saturday.
Columbus falls at Lone Tree
LONE TREE — Sera Vela had two blocks, dug up seven spikes and put up 20 assists as Victoria Howell and Lily Coil put down eight kills apiece in the Wildcats 25-23, 25-15, 25-20 North loss.
The Wildcats host L-M Tuesday, then play at Washington Thursday. Columbus falls to 3-19, 1-7 North and Lone Tree is 6-18, 1-5.
Mid-Prairie drops at Monticello
MONTICELLO — The Panthers senior night ended with a sweep of visiting River Valley Conference foe Mid-Prairie 26-24, 25-12, 25-13. The Golden Hawks are 12-8, 4-4 RVC, Monticello 15-7, 7-1.
Van Buren, Davis County play at Pekin
PACKWOOD — Pekin hosted a triangular, losing to Van Buren County 21-13, 21-11 and Davis County 21-6, 21-16.
“We started off playing pretty flat, but we ended the night with our last set against Davis County finally starting to find a rhythm,” Pekin head coach Rusty Crabtree said. “I hope we can start to build on this going into next week and the following week when we go into Regional play.”
Quinn Baker had eight assists and Kayse Miller had six kills in the two Panther matches. Claire Roth’s combined dig total was seven.
Pekin is 6-14. VBC is 7-14. DC is 26-8.
