Winfield-Mount Union sinks Columbus volleyball

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Playing without Melinda Oepping Tuesday, Winfield-Mount Union’s volleyball team was able to sweep its Super Conference North Division rival Columbus 25-16, 25-9, 25-10.
Bradie Buffington and Lily Freeman connected on eight kills apiece thanks to- WMU teammate Keely Malone’s 27 assists. Aurey Meeker was 13-for-14 serving with three aces. Audrie Gipple and Keetyn Townsley added six kills each. Townsley served two aces and had 11 digs. Kwyn Rossiter went 6-for-6 serving and played a pair of aces.
Victoria Howell served the Wildcats only ace and had nine kills while Columbus teammate Lily Coil gathered eight digs. Sera Vela put up eight assists and put down five blocks.
The Wolves record improves to 9-4 overall, 2-1 in the North. WMU continues North play with a home match against Highland Thursday. Columbus is 2-12, 1-3.
