LONE TREE — It might have been Lone Tree’s homecoming on Friday night but it was the Winfield-Mount Union football team that was celebrating.
The Wolves traveled to meet the Lions in a district showdown, and a solid defensive effort plus another big game out of Cam Buffington led the Wolves to a 32-22 win.
The final score made it closer than the game really was. WMU scored the first 32 points of the game, leading 26-0 at halftime and 32-0 after three periods.
Buffington rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He also threw for 73 yards and two scores, all going to fellow sophomore Abram Edwards.
Buffington had 5.5 tackles to lead the defense. Noah Sparrow and Cole Milks each picked off one pass.
WMU is now 4-1 on the year. The Wolves will have a week off before hosting WACO on October 8.
