Winfield-Mt. Union at 11 in rankings

The fifth rankings compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and released Wednesday have three basketball teams from the Southeast Iowa Super Conference, three from the River Valley Conference and two South iowa Cedar League representatives.

Winfield-Mt. Union, an SEISC North Division member, and its unbeaten record are at No. 11 in Class 1A while South Division teams Notre Dame (1A) and West Burlington (3A) are slotted at No. 13 and No. 9 respectively.

The RVC has two teams in 2A with No. 4 West Branch and No. 13 Bellevue and West Liberty is No. 6 in 3A.

Montezuma, No. 9 in 1A, seems to always be ranked and its SICL rival North Mahaska has climbed a spot from last week at No. 14.

Winfield-Mt. Union's closest game was a 4-point win over state scoring leader Isabel Manning and Van Buren County. West Burlington's closest game was a 15-point win against Central Lee. Notre Dame defeated Van Buren County (5-2) by 21 and Central Lee by 16 but lost to West Burlington by 36.

West Branch's only loss was 54-51 at Cascade (6-4), who West Liberty crushed 47-21. Bellvue has a 4-point win over West Liberty and its only loss is by nine to West Branch.

North Mahaska owns a victory over Oskaloosa and its only loss is to Montezuma. The Braves only loss is to Pella Christian.
