Winfield-Mt. Union splits with Lone Tree

LONE TREE - The Winfield-Mt. Union girls basketball team has won five games in a row. The Wolves took down Lone Tree 43-38 on the road on Friday night. The W-MU boys fell 60-48.
W-MU held a tight lead throughout the first half. W-MU led 14-12 after first quarter and 24-20 at halftime. The defense stepped up in the third quarter, holding Lone Tree to just four points to stretch the lead to 35-24 after three periods, and then held off a late Lion rush.
Jami Wilkerson scored 13 points in the win. Farrah Nelson finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Kyndal Townsley, Jobey Malone and Melina Oepping had four points each. Ali Cockerham, Keetyn Townsley and Keely Malone scored two apiece.
The W-MU boys got off to a rough start. The Wolves trailed 14-7 after one quarter and 31-21 at halftime. Lone Tree stretched the lead to 48-33 after three quarters.
Jared Arnold finished the night with a team-leading 19 points. Daunte Oepping had 10 points nad nine assists. Christian Gerot scored 10 points of his own. Ty Yocum had three. Bryce Wade scored two, and Collin Simmons finished with one.
