WINFIELD — Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball could do no wrong on Thursday night against Lone Tree.
The Wolves dominated for three straight, walking away with the 3-0 victory, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-16.
WMU trailed on just three serves through the night and those all came in the third and final set.
The Wolves set the tone early in the opening set as kills from Audrie Gipple and Katie Miller along with an ace from Pacey Schlee put them up 3-0.
They would never trail.
Lone Tree came as close as two at 14-12 following a block, but from then on out the Wolves outscored the Lions 11-1 as a Gipple ace and a kill from Kellee Milks ended it.
The second frame was much of the same.
WMU raced out to a 7-2 lead highlighted by five kills, but Lone Tree got it back down to two, 7-5 after two hitting errors by the Wolves.
Once again, WMU prevailed.
A kill from Tessa Huston made it 13-9 and before long back-to-back kills from Quin Smith and Huston made it a 22-12 game and gave the Wolves more than enough to get it done.
Set three was by far the closest of the evening.
It was Lone Tree that jumped out to a 2-0 advantage. The Wolves were able to knot it at 3-3 and a kill by Kailey Neil gave them back the lead.
From then on, Katie Miller served eight straight times and tallied four straight aces to give WMU a 11-3 lead.
Lone Tree came as close as five at 15-10, but four straight points capped off by a kill from Gipple pushed the game to 19-10, which was more than enough to get it done.
Quin Smith led the Wolves with nine kills on the night. Audrie Gipple followed with eight kills. Kailey Neil and Tessa Huston both had four.
Aurey Meeker finished with 18 assists on the night. Jessi Renken ended with 10.
Huston led on the defensive end with 12 digs and Meeker had six.
Katie Miller ended with five aces in the win.
