The Iowa High School Athletic Association released its second round of boys’ basketball rankings on Monday. Not much changed from week one as two Union area teams still find themselves in the rankings, but one of those has made a bit of a jump in this time around.
Those two teams are the Wolves of Winfield-Mt. Union (10-1) and the Eagles of Keota (11-0).
Winfield-Mt. Union moves up in this weeks rankings to No. 3 in Class 1A. The Wolves were previously No. 6. Keota meanwhile stays exactly where its was a week ago, No. 7 in the class.
WMU has been flawless as of late. The Wolves have dominated every opponent with their closest win being 15 points.
Since last week, the Wolves defeated Hillcrest Academy for a second time, 72-35, and then Lone Tree, 68-31. WMU has a firm hold on the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North standings with a 9-0 record. The next closest team is 7-1. The only SEISC North opponent that WMU hasn’t played is Mediapolis.
As for Keota, it has yet to be beaten. The Eagles have a two-game lead in the South Iowa Cedar East (SICL) standings, sitting at 9-0. The good news for Keota, they have already beaten second-place Belle Plaine by 41 points.
Without a doubt the Eagles biggest win thus far has come against SICL South foe Lynnville-Sully, who is ranked No. 9 in the 1A rankings. That victory for the Eagles ended 59-56 back in December.
The IHSAA will release new rankings each Monday through the end of the regular season.
