ST. LOUIS, Mo. — There was a familiar face in uniform for Monday night’s Major League Baseball slate, as former Pekin Panther Keaton Winn dressed for his first big league game for the San Francisco Giants.
Winn, who was drafted twice by the Giants before being signed in 2018, made his way from AAA Sacramento all the way to St. Louis for Monday night’s road game against the Cardinals.
Winn has been skyrocketing up the Giants organization, and had a scheduled start for the River Cats pushed back this weekend before getting the call to make the trip.
Winn, a native of Ollie, played varsity baseball for Pekin from his eighth grade season on, and quickly became the Panthers’ ace. Winn had a sub-1 ERA in every single season of his high school career, and once had a 20-strikeout perfect game at Lone Tree.
After graduating from Pekin in 2016, he went on to be a standout at Iowa Western Community College.
The Giants won Monday night’s game against the Cardinals, 4-3. San Francisco is finishing up the series in St. Louis on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading back to California to play the rival Dodgers for a three-game series starting on Friday.
