Winter sports beginning to heat up
Calender approaches new season as girls basketball starts things off
The 2023 winter sports season is almost here!
Area girls basketball teams began earlier in the month, and a handful of squads were in action on Saturday morning, as Winfield-Mount Union and Notre Dame traveled to Mt. Pleasant for an early day of scrimmaging, and both Washington and Tipton joined Highland for a scrimmage game as well.
Scrimmage games continue to run throughout the week, as Mt. Pleasant hosts a jamboree on Monday night, which includes Fairfield, Winfield-Mount Union and WACO. Pictures and results from those games will be in Wednesday’s edition of The Union.
Also taking place this week is ‘Meet the Players’ night for Mt. Pleasant and ‘Meet the Trojans’ in Fairfield, both happening on Thursday night. Both events begin at 6 p.m.
Washington will play a girls basketball scrimmage on Friday night at Wapello, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The season officially started for boys basketball and wrestling on Monday as well, as practices will begin for all teams.
