Seventh-Grade boys open up season
The Washington seventh-grade boys? basketball team opened up its season on Nov. 3, taking on Mt. Pleasant.
The A team was led by Trashaun Willis? eight points, but the Demons fell to the Panthers in the opener 43-31.
?We had balanced scoring, but missed many open shots,? coach Mark Berhow said after the game. ?We need to work on improving our defense. We learned what we need to work on in practice and for our next game. We had good effort from our guys.?
Willis also added nine rebounds to his effort, while Stout Wyatt finished the game with six points. Nine different Demons had at least two points, while Wilx Witthoft finished with five rebounds and two steals.
In the B game, Washington won 20-16 over the Panthers, notching 12 steals in the victory.
Spencer Sotello had seven points and four rebounds in the contest, while Keaton Zear finished the game with five points and five steals.
Reece Mayer led the C team with 10 points, as the Demons picked up a 24-7 victory.
Jimmy Cardosa had seven points to go with four rebounds, while Daniel Marcelino led the team with six rebounds.
In the Demons? second game of the season, last Thursday, the A team rebounded with a home victory over Fairfield, taking a 37-15 win over the Trojans.
Witthoft led the team with eight points and 10 rebounds in the contest, while Kael Adam finished with six points and nine rebounds. Noah Suchan and Sotello also pitched in six points apiece in the victory.
?We improved in running our offense and finishing our shots,? Berhow commented after the victory. ?Our defense was also better and took advantage of their mistakes.?
The B team fell in a tight 22-20 contest against the Trojans.
Sotello had nine points and five rebounds in the game, while Zear had seven points. Cardosa also pitched in two points, four rebounds and three steals.
The C team pulled out a 18-14 victory over the Trojans to improve to 2-0 on the season, led by Mayer?s seven points and six steals.
Cardosa had four points and four rebounds in the C game, while Daniel Marcelino finished with three points, six rebounds and three steals.
Eighth-Grade girls continue season
The Washington eighth-grade girls? basketball team looked to rebound from a tough loss to start the season, but the A team fell to Fairfield on Nov. 5 on the road.
Addison Six led the team with nine points, eight rebounds and six steals in the 41-21 loss to the Trojans, while Olivia Pacha added five points and four rebounds.
Taytum Hobscheidt led the team with two steals in the contest.
In the B game, the team improved its record to 2-0 with a 16-9 victory over Fairfield, led by Madison Fishback?s seven points and three rebounds.
Dawsen Schluetter added three points and five rebounds, while Maggie Morgan led the team with two steals.
The Demons then traveled to Ottumwa on Tuesday, where the A team fell to Bulldogs 51-17.
Halle Leyden finished the game with four points in the contest, and Demeri Bell and Six each finished the game with two points and two rebounds.
In the B game, a 26-8 victory for the Demons, Schluetter had eight points and nine rebounds, while Fishback pitched in six points and two rebounds, including a team-high two steals.
Samantha Miller added two points and six rebounds in the game.
In the most recent game against Aldo Leopold on Thursday night, the A team picked up its first win of the season, claiming a 52-10 victory.
Pacha led the team with 12 points and four rebounds, while Leyden finished the game with 10 points.
Alexa Mitchell had eight points, as eight different girls recorded at least three points.
The B team continued its undefeated season, moving to 4-0 against Aldo Leopold with a 27-8 victory.
Fishback finished the game with six points and three rebounds, while Mitchell had six points for the Demons.
Miller had a team-high six rebounds to go with four points and three steals in the contest.
