WMS volleyball roundup
The Washington Middle School volleyball teams have been busy over the past couple of weeks, holding five matches each since the last scoring roundup.
For the seventh-grade team, the Demons hosted Ottumwa on Sept. 21 and saw the A team fall in two sets, 21-18, 21-12. Taylor Brinning accounted for six points, while Mary Larrimore had three in the match.

The Washington Middle School volleyball teams have been busy over the past couple of weeks, holding five matches each since the last scoring roundup.
For the seventh-grade team, the Demons hosted Ottumwa on Sept. 21 and saw the A team fall in two sets, 21-18, 21-12. Taylor Brinning accounted for six points, while Mary Larrimore had three in the match.
The B team had a pair of set victories against Ottumwa, claiming a 21-16, 21-11 match victory, led by Anna Nacos? nine points.
Washington?s C team was led by Destinee Macias? 13 points, as the team cruised to a 21-13, 21-17 victory.
The D team picked up a pair of victories (21-12, 21-8) led by Macias? 14 points.
In their next contest against Aldo Leopold on Sept. 22, the A team fell in its two sets, 21-15, 21-15, led by Nacos and Brinning who scored three points each.
The B team was led by Brynn Beenblossom?s seven points as they split their two sets with a 21-13 loss and a 21-16 victory.
The C team had a pair of tight matches against Aldo Leopold, claiming a 22-20 victory and suffering a 20-22 setback, as Ginette Valaguez led the team, accounting for eight points.
On Sept. 28 against Keokuk, Sophia Kleese led the A team with four points, but the Demons fell in both sets 21-10, 21-12 on the day, while the B team picked up a pair of victories (21-7, 21-9) led by Nacos? 18 points.
The C team picked up a pair of victories against Keokuk (21-14, 21-16) led by Beenblossom?s 12 points, while Valaguez had six points in the D team?s 21-19 victory.
Against Edward Stone Middle School on Oct. 1, the A team fell in both sets, 21-18, 21-14, while the B team claimed victories in both sets, 21-17, 21-15. The C team split its pair of games, winning 21-15 and falling 21-16, before the D team claimed a 21-19 win.
In the most recent match against Fort Madison (on Monday), the A team fell to the Bloodhounds in two sets, 21-18, 21-14 with Nacos, Brinning and Halle Barkema each scoring four points.
The B team fell 21-6, 21-11 in both sets, while the C team fell in a pair of tight sets, 21-19, 26-24, led by Beenblossom?s eight points and Olivia Marek?s seven points.
For the eighth-grade team, the Demons took on Ottumwa on Sept. 21, and the A team fell in a pair of sets, 21-11, 21-6. The B team split its sets with Ottumwa, winning 21-13, and falling in a tight 23-21 set.
The C team was swept in its games, falling 21-12, 21-4, before the D team split its games with a 21-16 loss and a 21-19 victory.
In a set of matches against Aldo Leopold, the Demons? A team picked up a pair of set victories to take the match, 21-13, 21-14, while the B team fell in both its matches 21-12, 21-10.
The C team split its matches, winning 21-17 and falling 21-15, before the D team was swept 21-12, 21-12.
Against Keouk, the A team picked up a conference victory, claiming a 21-18, 21-13 victory over the Chiefs. The Washington B team split its sets, falling 21-12, before claiming a 21-13 set victory. The C team was swept 21-11, 22-20 and the D team fell in its sets 21-9, 21-8.
In a set of matches with Edward Stone Middle School, the A team claimed a set victory 24-22, before falling 2-1 in the match, suffering set losses of 21-4 and 15-9.
The B team split its sets, claiming a 21-18 victory and falling 21-17, while the C team fell in its match 21-14, 21-19. The D team lost its sets 21-11, 21-14.
Against Fort Madison, the Demons? A team suffered a 21-10, 21-16 sweep, while the B team fell 21-12, 21-4 in its two sets. The C team fell 21-6, 21-12 in its match, while the D team was swept 21-9, 21-9.
Both teams will take on Mt. Pleasant on Thursday night for its next matches, with the seventh-grade team at home and the eighth-grade team hitting the road.
