WMU hangs on to IHSAA’s No. 1 rankings

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released another set of 8-Player — Class 2A rankings on Monday. Much like last weeks list of rankings, three Union area teams sit inside the top 10.

In Class 8-Player, Winfield-Mt. Union still holds the No. 1 spot. WMU also made the jump to No. 1 in The Gazette poll after previous top ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck fell last week to Clarksville.

WMU didn’t play a game this past week as scheduled opponent, Mormon Trail didn’t have enough players to compete.

The Wolves will close out their regular season on Friday against HLV.

WACO still graces the rankings. The Warrior’s hold the No. 10 ranking for the third-straight week.

The Warrior’s are coming off a dominant 51-6 victory over English Valleys.

In Class 1A, Sigourney-Keota still holds a spot in the top 10. Last week, the Cobras came in at No. 9. This time around, they’re slotted in the No. 7 spot.

Sigourney-Keota put together a complete performance against Colfax-Mingo last week.

The Cobras were winners 82-0 over the Tigerhawks. They will close out their regular season with a matchup against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont this Friday.

The IHSAA doesn’t rank Class 3A-Class 5A teams. Those teams use the RPI system for playoff picks and seeding.

It’s not looking good for the Union’s Class 3A teams. Out of 36 Class 3A teams, Fairfield, Washington and Mt. Pleasant are ranked No. 25, 31 and 36 respectively in the RPI.
