Edwards’ 25, Genkinger’s 18 help boys knock off North Division foe

WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mount Union basketball teams went 1-1 in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division clash against Highland on Friday night.
The boys' team rolled past the Huskies 74-36. The Lady Wolves weren't quite as lucky, falling to the 14th-ranked Highland squad 48-37.
The boys' team scored a ridiculous 57 points in the first half, putting up 27 in the first quarter and 30 in the second to take a 57-19 advantage into the break. The Wolves would never look back.
Jake Edwards scored a team-high 25 points. Lane Genkinger went for 18. Nicholas Sparrow scored 10. Cooper Buffingotn had eight points and 12 rebounds. William Cupps and Cody Milks each had five points. Grant Anderson scored three. Max Edwards didn't score, but dished out 10 assists and finished with six steals.
The Lady Wolves fought hard against the Huskies, going up 13-10 after one before trailing 28-12 at halftime and 39-32 after three quarters.
Kynlee Buffington led the Wolves with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Madisen Kellogg scored 11 points. Suttyn Schlee had five. Josie Nelson scored three. Kellee Milks had two, and Kaylynn Kellogg scored one.
