WMU, Keota to 1A state golf meet
Wolves nip Eagles by 1 point for district title

WAPELLO — Tuesday’s Class 1A district boys golf tournament at Wapello was about as close as could be. Just 14 strokes separated the Top-14 teams, and the district title was decided by just one.
Winfield-Mount Union and Keota both advanced to the Class 1A state tournament, shooting 350 and 351 respectively to grab the two qualifying spots available.
The Wolves and Eagles each made the state meet by just a handful of strokes. HLV was on their tails, shooting 357. Hillcrest Academy and Sigourney each shot 362. BGM and English Valleys both finished at 364, and Easton Valley ended the meet at 383.
Justin Knipfer led WMU with an 85 to finish fifth place overall. Carter Loyd shot 86. Konner Kinneberg ended at 87. Max Edwards and Cody Milks each finished at 92, and Grant Anderson shot 106.
Keota’s Cole Kindred and Billie Kindred each finished at 86. Tanner Waterhouse was close behind them, with an 88. Swyer Stout shot 91. Brennan McQuire finished at 93, and Conner Strand shot an even 100.
Both WMU and Keota will be at Ames Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday for the Class 1A state tournament.
