An action-packed Thursday of Class 1A regional girls basketball saw three area teams get knocked out of the postseason.
Along with Highland's loss to WACO, both New London and Keota bid adieu to the 2020-21 season. WACO and the undefeated Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves cruised to the next round.
In Region 5, Farrah Nelson helped ninth-ranked WMU win every quarter against Holy Trinity to end the Crusaders season 53-42. Nelson doubled up in two categories, putting up 14 points and taking down 16 rebounds. She snagged four steals in the win and Kyndal Townsley added 12 points. WMU will play Calamus-Wheatland in the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere in Region 5, 10th-ranked Notre Dame took out New London 63-37. The Nikes will host WACO in the quarterfinals, with the winner of that game playing either WMU or Calamus-Wheatland in the semifinal game.
Keota fell victim to Iowa Valley, 53-16, in the Region 6 opener. Iowa Valley reached double digits in each quarter and held Keota to six points or fewer in each period. Iowa Valley will play at top-seeded and seventh-ranked Montezuma in the quarterfinals.
