WMU notches senior night win over Hillcrest Academy

WINFIELD — Winfield-Mt. Union plays some great volleyball on Thursday, while celebrating its senior night against Hillcrest Academy.
The Wolves (11-10) won the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North bout after falling in the first set 25-17. WMU bounced back winning three straight, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-21 over the Ravens (17-7).
The win puts the Wolves at fifth in the SEISC North at 4-3. Hillcrest Academy sits at 4-3 as well.
Winfield-Mt. Union was led with 12 kills from Kellee Milks. Kynlee Buffington finished with 11 kills. Josie Nelson and Quin Smith both ended with nine kills. Kaelyn Townsley followed with seven.
Madisen Kellogg dished out 42 assists through four sets.
Pacey Schlee ended with 28 digs, followed by Josie Nelson’s 23. Townsley and Milks both added 18.
Townsley finished with four aces and Smith had two. Milks added one as well.
For Hillcrest Academy, Malia Yoder ended with 21 kills. Niva Helmuth ended with 10. Kylee Statler and Zoey Curtiss each had five.
Claire Withrow had 31 assists.
Yoder ended with 22 digs, while Lydia Beachy tallied 17. Helmuth had 16 as well.
Beachy finished with four aces for the Ravens as well.
It’s a big win for Winfield-Mt. Union, who entered off three straight losses.
Meanwhile, the loss is the second straight for Hillcrest Academy.
