WINFIELD — Winfield-Mount Union was able to flex its muscle on Tuesday night, earning an important Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division win over Mediapolis in three sets.
The Wolves dumped the Bullettes 25-18, 26-24, 25-15, knocking Mediapolis (11-21, 6-2) down one spot in the standings and settling into second alone.
The Wolves were led by Bradie Buffington’s eight kills. Melina Oepping and Morgan Grelk each tallied seven.
Keely Malone had 26 assists on the day. Keetyn Townsley led the team with 14 digs, and both Malone and Townsley had a three-ace night on the serves.
The Wolves are now 20-10 and they finished North play with a 7-1 record. Wapello still has to beat Lone Tree on Thursday night to keep the Wolves off the top line in the division, but the Arrows (24-10, 7-0) remain heavy favorites to win the league alone.
