WMU up to 14 in IGHSAU rankings

Winfield-Mount Union is 8-0 in girls basketball and the Wolves are getting recognized for their hot start by the Iowa Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

WMU is the only Union area team that appeared in the latest girls basketball rankings, which were released on Thursday evening. The Wolves appear at No. 14 in Class 1A.

The new ranking is one spot above where the Wolves stood last week. WMU moved up from No. 15.

Also moving up in the Class 1A rankings was Notre Dame out of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division. The Nikes, like the Wolves, are undefeated and sit atop their division in the SEISC.

A third SEISC team, Mediapolis, is up to No. 11 in the Class 2A rankings, though the Bullettes did lose a game after the rankings came out, as West Burlington knocked them off on Friday night.

The Wolves don’t have Notre Dame or West Burlington on the regular season schedule, but they will travel to Mediapolis on Jan. 9.
