WMU, VBC leads area teams at Nike Invitational
Wolves’ Loyd and Mt. Pleasant’s Matheney lead area individuals in tie for third

BURLINGTON — Winfield-Mt. Union. Van Buren County, New London and Mt. Pleasant boys golf were all in action on Tuesday at the Nike Invitational at the Burlington Golf Club.
Out of the Union area squads, Winfield-Mt. Union and Van Buren County led the way each tying at 365 points for a tie at third.
New London finished seventh with 382 points and Mt. Pleasant followed with 393 total points.
Central Lee were the winners with 361 points. Wapello, Fort Madison, Notre Dame and Davis County participated as well.
For WMU, Carter Loyd was the highest placer. Loyd shot an 83 in the competition for a tie at third.
Andrew Brown followed Loyd with a 90. Jake Edwards finished with a 92. Max Edwards shot 100, Nicholas Sparrow finished with 102 and Konner Kinneberg shot a 114.
Van Buren County was paced by T.J. Jirak with an 85.
Teammate Riley Bruckman was just one shot behind with an 86. Dylan Richardson finished with a 95, Jerrod Griffin ended with a 99, Aidan McEntee carded a 103 and Lucas DeLong had a 111.
For New London, Weston Miller shot a low of 90. Wyatt Miller followed with 91. Mason Shelledy tallied a 94. Coen Fitzpatrick carded a 107. Sullivan Barron ended with 114 and Vegas Watson shot a 116.
Mt. Pleasant was led by Nick Matheney with a low of 83 that was good enough to tie for third. Nate Dismang finished with an 95. Reece Coffman shot a 98. Ben Meador posted a 117. Izaac Zihlman ended with a 121 and Grant Willham carded a 128.
