Wolves and Warriors split in Wayland

WAYLAND - WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union renewed their rivalry with a girl-boy doubleheader on Saturday and both teams came away with a victory. The Lady Wolves took the girls game 39-29 and the sixth-ranked WACO boys won 56-35.
A low-scoring first quarter left W-MU with a 6-4 lead in the girls game. The Wolves stretched their lead to 20-9 at haltime and led 33-15 after three quarters. WACO cut it to 10 after outscoring W-MU 14-6 in the fourth.
Kyndal Townsley was the only player to score in double digits, putting up 11 points in the win. Farrah Nelson had a big game as well, finishing with eight poitns, 13 rebounds and five steals.
Jobey Malone scored six points for the Wolves. Ali Cockerham and Keetyn Townsley finished with four apiece. Bradie Buffington had three. Jami Wilkerson finished with two points and five assists, and Melina Oepping scored one point.
WACO was led by Laney Graber, who scored eight points on the night. Morgan Graber had six points and six rebounds. Lela-Ann Fort scoerd five points. Lindsey Roth had four. Maysan Lee finished with three. Molly McLaughlin had two points, three assists and six rebounds, and Grace Conwell scored one point.
The WACO defense bothered W-MU throughout the first half and allowed the Warriors to build a big lead. WACO held an 13-4 advantage after one quarter, led 31-9 at halftime and took a 42-19 lead into the final period. W-MU won the fourth quarter 16-14.
Nik Coble scored 18 points to lead the Warriors. pietro Vannini had 12 to give WACO two double-digit scorers.
Drew Kissell, Braden Hammond and Gabe Reichenbach had six points apiece. Will Edeker scored four. Dalton Diers had three,a nd Larry Lopez-Berrera finished with one.
W-MU was co-led in points by three separate players. Juanito Piper, Daunte Oepping and Jared Arnold scored seven points apiece.
Collin Simmons finished the game with six points. Christian Gerot and John Day had three points apiece, and Ty Yocum finished the night with two.
