LETTS ? The Winfield-Mt. Union girls? basketball team battled again, but this time they came out three points ahead, defeating Louisa-Muscatine 37-34 on the road last night.
Once again, the Wolves had a stronger first half, putting up 21 points in the first two quarters and only 16 after the half.
?We really dominated everything except for the scoreboard,? said Head Coach Mitch Wachs. ?We missed 14 uncontested shots at the basket and shot four-for-30 in the second half.?
But the Wolves held on long enough for the win, aided by tough defensive playing.
?Our defense was really outstanding, as we forced 35 turnovers,? Wachs said. ?We will need to get used to playing the up-tempo game for all 32 minutes without the lapses in judgement and focus that we had tonight. (But) it was great to get a win.?
Cassie Kingery led the scoring for W-MU with 15 points, had five steals and four rebounds.
Shelby Therme put up 10 points.
Kassidy McLaughlin scored seven points, grabbed six boards and had seven steals.
Katelyn McArtor led the team with seven steals and added four points.
On Nov. 26, the girls and boys teams will play in their Hall of Pride scrimmage against West Burlington.
The game will be in Winfield.
