Wolves devour Wildcats offense

COLUMBUS JUNCTION - The Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division boys basketball game looked to be close between Winfield-Mt. Union and Columbus Tuesday after a 14-10 first quarter.
The visitors stretched that four-point lead by eating up the points with an offensive second quarter and not allowing any in a defensive third quarter on the way to a 62-33 triumph to put WMU's record at 4-2. Columbus falls to 0-9.
The second and third quarters were an expanse of differences between the home court Wildcats and the visiting Wolves. WMU racked up 27 points in the second stanza for a 41-21 halftime advantage. Then a defensive effort held Columbus scoreless in the third quarter for a 55-21 WMU lead to start the fourth quarter.
Cam Buffington racked up 24 points for the Wolves and Abram Edwards totaled 14. Buffington was in prime position to score with seven of his nine rebounds on the offensive end. He also had seven steals, four assists and blocked a shot.
Jacob Kongable contributed to the flurry of points with nine points and five assists while WMU teammate Bryce Wade had seven points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Konnor Wade had three points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Jack Moody and Isaac Wilson notched two points apiece.
