Wolves district champs, SK collects huge win

Friday night’s football slate was highlighted by two of the area’s best rolling in a couple of the biggest games in the state.
No. 2 (8-Player) Winfield-Mount Union 76, Iowa Valley 14
The Wolves secured a Class 8-Player District 6 championship with a blowout win of Iowa Valley, a team that looked to be the toughest left on the WMU schedule.
Cam Buffington rushed for 218 yards and two scores in the win. Cole Milks went for 90 yards and three touchdowns.
Jake Edwards completed six of his seven pass attempts. Four of them went for touchdowns, including a pair to Carter Loyd, one to Abram Edwards and one to Max Edwards.
No. 10 (8-Player) WACO 67, New London 8
WACO continued to push its way toward the playoffs, this time by earning a 67-8 win over New London on the Tigers’ homecoming night.
WACO’s Louden Huisenga rumbled for 78 yards and two scores in the win. John McLaughlin went for 53 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Trey Edeker found the end zone as well. Clayton Miller threw three touchdown passes, all to Isaac Rich.
New London’s Gavin Menke-Bailey threw for 89 yards and a touchdown pass to Logan Franklin. Cale Westerbeck had two catches for 45 yards.
No. 10 Sigourney-Keota- 42, Pella Christian 15
The Cobras took on a Pella Christian team that lies just a few votes away from the Top-10, and it was all SK all night.
Kale Clarahan ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Sawyer Stout went 2-for-3 for 81 yards and two scores, both to Cole Kindred.
Sigourney-Keota now has a stranglehold in Class 1A District 6. A win next week wrap up the title.
Pekin 56, Highland 0
Pekin continued its playoff push with a shut out victory at home against Highland.
Quarterback Will Adam was fantastic again, rushing for 193 yards and four scores. He also threw one touchdown pass, to Robert Brown.
Columbus 70, Louisa-Muscatine 14
The Wildcats hung 35 in the first quarter and 70 in the game against Louisa-Muscatine in a district home game.
Kaden Amigon only ran the ball three times, but went for 127 yards and two scores. Riley Kaalberg and Angel Venzor each scored twice on the ground, and Trevor Phillips threw a pair of touchdown passes.
Danville 46, Van Buren County 7
It was a tough road trip for Van Buren County, as the Danville Bears held home field en route to a blowout victory.
It was Van Buren County’s first loss since Sept. 1.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 52, Cardinal 6
The Comets couldn’t get the offense rolling in Eddyville, as the Rockets led 44-0 at halftime and never looked back.
Cardinal freshman Zach Luedtke ran for 96 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Mediapolis 38, Mid-Prairie 7
The Golden Hawks were shut down by a tough Mediapolis team, falling by 31 at home.
Despite the loss, Hudson Ehrenfelt still ran for 128 yards and caught three passes for 40 yards. Brady Weber completed 11 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, a 38-yard strike to Kaden Kos.
