It is not a meeting at dawn or high noon but Winfield-Mt. Union and West Burlington will be the gunslingers in a shootout, the Southast Iowa Super Conference Shootout Friday in girls basketball.
Undefeated Winfield-Mt. Union, currently ranked No. 10 in Class 1A, will face No. 8 (3A) West Burlington.
The Wolves have been the class of the North Division with a 16-0 mark and a game against Lone Tree tonight.
One of the most balanced teams in the state, WMU has seven players scoring 4.5 points per game or higher, but none average double digits.
Bradie Buffington's average is the highest at 9.3 points per game. Farrah Nelson scores 8.2 and leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game.
West Burlington is 17-1, with a home game against South Division foe No. 15 (2A) Van Buren County tonight.
The Falcons have a 75-53 loss at No. 11 (1A)Notre Dame. The Falcons and Nikes split the season series, but West Burlington has a higher winning percentage, having fewer games canceled or postponed than their crosstown rivals.
The Falcons are much more star-powered. The Falcons have three players scoring 9.9 points per game or higher. Sidney Marlow scores 13.6 points per game. Abby Bence nets 13.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game, and Annaka Harris scores 9.9 per game.
Van Buren County will host the shootout's No. 3 game, when they host Louisa-Muscatine. That will be a matchup of two of the Top-5 scorers in Iowa, as VBC's Isabel Manning (31.2 PPG) goes head-to-head with L-M's Kylee Sanders (24.3 PPG).
IOther Shootout games, Pekin and WACO will play in the No. 4 game at Central Lee High School, and Highland will face Holy Trinity Catholic in Danville.
Cardinal and New London will not play in SEISC shoot out games this year, due to the South being short two teams with Columbus and Hillcrest
