WINFIELD - It was no secret that Friday night's homecoming game for Winfield-Mt. Union was a tall task. The Wolves were playing against one-loss Hartwick-Ladora-Victor, one of the best teams in the district.
W-MU couldn't contain a high-powered H-L-V offense, falling 72-22.
Daunte Oepping led the W-MU offense both with his arms and with his legs. Oepping was 9-27 for 68 yards and three interceptions. He carried the ball 14 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns, including a 69-yard scamper to the end zone.
Keegan Atkinson was the second-leading rusher for W-MU. He had five carries on the night and took them for 51 yards and two touchdowns.
Jacob Ford led the Wolves in receptions. Ford caught five balls for 42 yards. Graham Hagge, Christian Gerot and Juanuto Piper all caught passes as well.
Ford had 7.5 tackles to lead the defense. Piper was second on the team with five tackles.
W-MU had just one takeaway on the day. Noah Freeman had a fumble recovery.
The Wolves will have another tough matchup next week when they play No. 2 New London at the Tigers' homecoming game. The Wolves will take on the undefeated Tigers on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
