WINFIELD - The Louisa-Muscatine basketball teams came into Winfield looking for wins on Tuesday night, but the Wolves made sure they left empty-handed.
The No. 11 (1A) Winfield-Mt. Union girls' team stayed unbeaten with a 46-32 victory. The boys followed that up with a dominant 55-36 win.
The WMU girls needed just one more win to go into winter break with a perfect record, but they had their hands full with Louisa-Muscatine star Kylee Sanders coming in to town.
Sanders came into the game averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds and six steals a game, but she was bothered all night by the WMU defense. The Wolves held Sanders to 6-for-29 from the field and 2-for-13 from 3-point land.
WMU led 13-9 after one quarter, 24-20 at halftime and 33-26 after three periods. The Wolevs held the Falcons to just six points in the fourth quarter and 12 total points in the second half.
Bradie Buffingoton had a big game from the field. The sophomore scored 23 points from the bench, and aldo led the team with 10 rebounds.
Jami Wilkerson and Melina Oepping scored six points apiece. Farrah Nelson had three points. Keetyn Townsley, Kyndal Townsley, Jobey Malone and Jenna Buffington scored two points apiece.
Cam Buffington was dominant in the boys game, scoring 34 points to lead the Wolves in a blowout. The Wolves led 10-8 after one quarter, 24-12 at halftime and 38-25 after three quarters, and then piled on 17 more in the fourth.
Along with his career high in points, Buffington also pulled down a team-leading 13 rebounds. Abram Edwards added 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and seven blocked shots.
Andrew Brown scored five points for the Wolves. Bryce Wade scored three, and Konnor Wade had two.
The WMU girls are now 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division. The boys are 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Both teams will be at Columbus Community on Jan. 5.
