Wolves get Golden Bears with trip to title on the line
Winfield-Mt. Union set to clash with Bishop Garrigan in 8-Player semifinals

CEDAR FALLS — The time is now for Winfield-Mt. Union football.
Beginning on Wednesday at 10 a.m., the Wolves will be playing on Iowa high school football’s biggest stage, the University of Northern Iowa’s UNI-Dome.
It’s the 8-Player semifinal round and a win puts the Wolves into the state championship.
Winfield-Mt. Union’s opponent is the Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan.
With an unblemished record of 11-0 Winfield-Mt. Union holds the No. 1 seed in the tournament, while Bishop Garrigan is the No. 4 seed.
Winfield-Mt. Union enters the semifinals bout off a win over Moravia 34-6 and a victory over Don Bosco in the quarterfinal round, 34-29.
The Wolves held off a late Don rally with an interception in the final seconds.
As for Bishop Garrigan, the Golden Bears come in off two massive wins over contenders Remsen St. Mary’s and CAM Anita.
Bishop Garrigan downed the 2022 defending state champion Hawks 21-18 and the Cougars 26-16 to get to the dome.
While WMU hasn’t lost season, Bishop Garrigan has been on quite the run themselves. The Golden Bears haven’t lost since week one, a defeat by the hands of St. Edmond, 42-34.
On the other side of the bracket, it’s No. 2 seeded Bedford (11-0) taking on No. 3 seed Gladbrook-Reinbeck (10-1).
Winfield-Mt. Union and Bishop Garrigan will square off at 10 a.m. on Wednesday with Bedford and Gladbrook-Reinbeck to follow at 1 p.m.
