WINFIELD - The No. 11 (1A) Winfield-Mt. Union girls basketball team began 2021 the same way it ended 2020. The Wolves ran away from Sigourney 50-34 on Monday night to move to 10-0 on the season.
The game was tied at 10-10 after one quarter, but WMU dominated the middle two periods to lead 25-16 at halftime and 43-23 after three quarters.
Sigourney had its best quarter in the fourth, winning 11-7, but it was far too little too late as the Wolves walked away with a 16-point win.
Kyndal Townsley led the Wolves with 14 points in the win. Farrah Nelson scored 11 points, and Bradie Buffington had 10 to give WMU three double-digit scorers.
Keely Malone collected six points on the night. Jobey Malone scored five. Keetyn Townelsy had three, and Melina Oepping scored one.
The Wolves have a weeklong break before their next game due to their two scheduled contests this week being canceled. W-MU will have a 10-0 overall record and a 4-0 record in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division when they host Pekin on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
