Wolves No. 1

Winfield-Mount Union didn’t have to play a game this Friday due to a Mormon Trail forfeit, but that didn’t stop the Wolves from moving up in The Gazette’s high school football rankings.

Previously top-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck was knocked off on Friday, meaning WMU had nobody in front of them in Class 8-Player. The Wolves, albeit by one vote, are now standing atop the Class 8-Player rankings alone.

WMU sits one points above CAM, Anita, for the top spot in the rankings. The Wolves are getting three first place votes.

WACO is also in the Class 8-Player rankings, sticking in at No. 10. The Warriors defeated English Valleys 51-6 on Friday night in their final regular season game of the season.

Moving up one spot in the Class 1A poll was Sigourney-Keota. After a dominant 82-0 win over Colfax Mingo, the Cobras are now No. 6 in the Class 1A rankings.

WMU isn’t the only team that is making its debut at No. 1 in this week’s poll. Creston is now ranked No. 1 in Class 3A. Much of the other top teams have remained the same.
