Wolves off to a hot start

WEST BRANCH - The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team kicked off the 2020 season with six games in three days, and the Wolves are looking good thus far with a 4-2 record.
After sweeping Keokuk on their home floor on Thursday night, W-MU went 3-2 in the West Branch tournament, sweeping Wapello, Lone Tree and Edddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the process.
The Wolves dumped the Chiefs 25-21, 25-17 and 28-26 on Thursday. Jenna Buffington led the squad with 12 kills, and was helped out by seven-kill games from Jami Wilkerson and Melina Oepping. Kayla Edwards dished out 17 assists, and both Wilkerson and Buffington had nine digs.
Buffington led the team in kills in a 21-15, 21-9 win over Wapello, collecting seven, and tacked on eight more in a 25-18, 25-23 victory against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Bradie Buffington's six kills led the team in a 25-10, 25-10 sweep of Lone Tree.
The Wolves' two losses came at the hands of Prince of Peac and West Branch. W-MU dropped a 21-19, 21-18 game against Prince of Peace, and fell 21-18, 21-19 to West Branch.
W-MU will open up Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division play on Thursday night when they welcome in Pekin.
