Wolves, Panthers, Huskies battle at Wilton
WMU wins 2, Mt. Pleasant beats Henry County foe

WILTON — Three Union area volleyball teams met at the Wilton tournament this weekend. The Panthers and Wolves both saw some success.
WMU was the only team to score multiple wins on the day, but the Wolves were downed by Henry County foe Mt. Pleasant. After WMU won 23-21 in the first set, Mt. Pleasant battled to beat WMU 21-13 in Set 2, and 20-18 in Set 3.
Despite the loss, Audrie Gipple tallied eight kills for the Wolves. Aurey Meeker had 10 assists, and Tessa Huston led the way with 12 digs.
WMU did pick up a win over Highland, sweeping the Huskies just a couple of days after beating them in a five-set thriller. The Wolves won 21-12, 21-19 behind six kills from Gipple and four from Lily Freeman.
WMU also took down Mediapolis, rallying from a 21-12 deficit to beat the Bulldogs 21-15 and 15-12. Gipple had 10 kills and Meeker dished out 13 assists in the win.
The Wolves were defeated twice more on the day. Besides the loss to Mt. Pleasant, WMU also fell 21-17, 21-3 against Wilton and 21-14, 21-11 against Burlington.
Mt. Pleasant fell thrice in the tournament, all 2-0 sweeps. The Panthers lost 21-8 and 21-13 against Mediapolis, 22-20 and 21-8 against Wilton, and 21-16 and 21-15 against Burlington.
Besides the loss to WMU, Highland fell three other times in the tournament. The Huskies fell 21-19 and 21-16 against Burlington, 21-11 and 21-15 against Mediapolis, and the 21-8 and 23-21 against Wilton.
The Panthers, Wolves and Huskies will all be in action on Tuesday night. Mt. Pleasant has a Southeast Conference game against Burlington. WMU and Highland will be in Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division action against Hillcrest Academy and Columbus respectively.
