Don’t look now, but the Winfield-Mount Union football team may be the most exciting squad in Southeast Iowa this fall.
The Wolves went 6-4 last season, falling in the first round of the Class 8-Player playoffs. This year, WMU brings back a ton of talent, including senior Iowa Commit Cam Buffington (1,484 rushing yards, 35 total touchdowns) and Army commit Abram Edwards (392 receiving yards, 4 touchdowns).
Cole Milks (723 passing yards, 11 TDs) also returns behind center.
The WMU volleyball team won the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division last year, but the Wolves did lose a ton of talent, including their Top-3 hitters, starting setter and leading defenders.
On the cross-country scene, WMU finished fourth in the SEISC last season, thanks in part to eventual state qualifier Kohlby Newsom’s 10th-place finish. The girls’ team took seventh.
