NORTH ENGLISH — Winfield-Mt. Union put together one of its most dominant performances of the season on Friday night in a 60-18 rout of English Valleys.
Things didn’t start out the hottest for the Wolves in the road win over the Bears.
Despite the final, WMU found itself down 12-8 at the end of the first quarter.
But from then on the Wolves only got better.
The Wolves shutout the Bears in the second quarter, while scoring 14 of their own to make it 22-12 at the half.
WMU’s turn around was in large part to the Wolves’ defense and the likes of quarterback Jake Edwards and running back Lane Genkinger.
Edwards ended up throwing for 174 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 60 yards on the ground and two more scores.
Genkinger rushed for 72 yards and caught eight passes for 110 yards. He had a touchdown in each category.
In the second half it was all WMU.
The Wolves dropped 16 points on the Bears in the third frame and coupled that with a 22 point fourth quarter.
After giving up 12 points in the first, the Wolves gave up just six points the rest of the way, all coming in the fourth.
Along with Edwards and Genkinger, Nicholas Sparrow finished with 36 yards rushing. He also caught three passes for 16 yards.
Max Edwards caught two passes for 21 yards and Colin Anderson caught one pass for 27 yards.
Defensively, Cooper Buffington finished with seven tackles. Max Edwards and Genkinger both had 2.5 tackles for a loss.
Winfield-Mt. Union improves to 3-2 with the win. WMU will take on Iowa Valley (5-0) in its next contest.
