WINFIELD ? On a day that reached 96 degrees, Amanda Darbyshire wasn?t looking for much more from her team.
?For as hot as it was, they really worked hard,? Darbyshire, the Winfield-Mt. Union softball coach, said.
The Wolves dropped their contest against Lone Tree, 2-0, but not for lack of effort.
?It was good defense by both teams, and that?s about it,? Darbyshire said.
Neither team had much power at the plate; the Wolves tallied four hits on the day while W-MU pitcher Kassidy McLaughlin gave up six to the Lone Tree hitters.
The difference was timing; the Lions managed to string a few hits together for a pair of runs, and the W-MU offense was spread out over the seven-inning contest.
Shelby Therme, Katelyn McArtor, Kenzi Sternat and Layne Davis each went 1-for-3 for W-MU.
The Wolves are now 6-19 on the season and 3-14 in the SEISC North.
They travel tonight to Wayland for another conference matchup against WACO (9-16 overall, 5-11 conference).
The Wolves and the Warriors have met twice already this season and each team has won one game.
