KALONA ? The Winfield-Mt. Union basketball teams split a pair of games with Iowa Mennonite School in Kalona last night, with the girls taking home a 45-39 win while the boys dropped a 53-31 decision.
The W-MU girls took an early lead against IMS, but IMS was just as quick to catch up, and the Wolves had only a one-point lead at halftime, 24-23.
It was the IMS girls who took off after the half, taking a three-point lead into the final quarter. But the Wolves were able to hold IMS to only four points as the final eight minutes counted down, and W-MU scored 13 on its way to a victory.
Sarah Chaney scored 19 points for W-MU and grabbed 13 rebounds to claim the double-double and lead the Wolves in both categories. Shelby Therme had nine points as well as nine rebounds on the night. Kassidy Mclaughlin added six points and seven boards.
The boys? game didn?t go as well for the Wolves.
?I think we played a decent game defensively, but our offense let us down,? Coach Cody Wolfe said. ?We played a little scared against a team that really thrives on keeping you on your heels.?
Clayton Robison led W-MU with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Wolves take the court again on Friday when they travel to Columbus. The girls? game starts at 6 p.m.
