Wolves stay perfect in league

Tuesday saw high school volleyball play in the area with the highlight being Winfield-Mount Union maintaining a perfect conference record.
Wolves keep rolling
LONE TREE - Winfield-Mount Union stayed perfect at 6-0 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division, thumping the Lions with a 25-4, 25-4 and 25-13 win at Lone Tree. Jenna Buffington led the Wolves with 12 kills. Madie Anderson had nine, and Emma Haines finished with five. Both Kayla Edwards and Keely Malone dished out 13 assists. Buffington was killer on the serve, going 27-for-28 with seven aces. Melina Oepping tacked on a couple aces as well. Defensively, Kyndal and Keetyn Townsley hustled for nine digs apiece.
Comets get 1st SEISC win
DANVILLE - It took everything Cardinal had to get in the winner's column in the SEISC South Division. The Comets battled with Danville and squeaked out a victory, winning 18-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11.
The Comets were led by Kiya Chapin, who went off for 18 kills. Trista Benedict had six kills, and Riley Bears dished out 15 assists.
Cardinal had nine service aces in the win, including three from Trista Benedict and two from Kinsey Hissem. Elizabeth Lett had 23 digs on the nights, and Cameron Younker finished with five blocks.
Warriors swept at Notre Dame
BURLINGTON - Van Buren County nearly stole a set against Notre Dame in the South road game. ND edged VBC in the first set and put it away in the next two, beating the Warriors 30-28, 25-15 and 25-12.
Chelsey Huff had nine kills in the loss. Jaelyn Boley had four, and Ella Jirak finished with two. Isabel Manning dished out 13 assists and also led the team with five blocks and two service aces.
Kadence Nusbaum led the Warriors with 17 kills. Shea Scott had 14 digs, and one ace.
Wildcats catch Ravens
KALONA - Columbus (9-12) won the North match at Hillcrest 25-21, 25-21, 25-18.
Sera Vela and Jobie Lekwa combined to put up 24 assists as Columbus teammate Olivia Carrier put down 14 kills. Lekwa and Michelle Diaz each had two blocks and Carrier had five aces. Emma Milder had four digs.
Evelyn Gerber had 17 digs and three aces for Hillcrest (1-16). Yani Gutirrez set 12 assists and Ester Hughes connected on seven kills.
Bullettes target Panthers
MEDIAPOLIS - Pekin (5-6) lost to Mediapolis (6-13) 25-14, 25-14, 25-16 in the North match.
Erika Coleman and Kaylee Peiffer combined for 16 assists and Emma Phillips hit eight kills in the loss. Kadlyn Johnson dug up 10 hits and served two aces.
Eagles grounded
KEOTA - North Mahaska (8-7) had to fight Keota (2-11) for every point to win the South Iowa Cedar League match Monday 30-28, 27-25, 25-20.
Keota will play at Sigourney against HLV in the SICL tournament which starts Monday.
