WAPELLO — The Winfield-Mount Union golf team traveled to Wapello last week for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference battle.
The boys’ competition went right down to the wire. Wapello nipped WMU by four strokes, winning 178-182. The Lady Wolves shot 231, and won due to Wapello having no team score.
The WMU boys got a great round out of Carter Loyd, who shot 39 to win medalist honors. Andrew Brown shot a 45, and Jake Edwards ended at 48.
Nick Sparrow was the fourth scorer for the Wolves, shooting a 50. Konner Kinneberg shot 51, and Max Edwards finished at 54.
Wapello’s Cooper Garrison won runner-up honors after shooting a 43.
On the girls’ side, Anna Anderson pulled out medalist honors by shooting a 54. Lily Freeman was one stroke behind her, with a 55.
Isabel Kann shot 60 on the day. Alli Humphries and Ava Hagge each ended at 62, and Afton Wilkerson finished at 67.
Wapello had three scorers on the day, but the fourth of the Arrows’ usual quartet was absent.
