IOWA CITY (AP) ? Sioux City center Adam Woodbury and four other Iowa recruits made it official on Wednesday, signing letters of intent to play for the Hawkeyes starting in 2012-13.
Woodbury, guards Mike Gesell, Patrick Ingram and Anthony Clemmons and center Kyle Meyer make up a class ranked 19th in the country by recruiting publication Scout.com.
Woodbury, a 7-foot-1 center for Sioux City East High, turned down North Carolina, among others, to play for the Hawkeyes. Woodbury averaged 18.5 points and 12 rebounds for East last season and should see immediate playing time once he becomes eligible.
Gesell, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Sioux City, Neb., was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Nebraska last season. Gesell averaged 25.2 points, 8.2 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 steals for South Sioux High a year ago.
Ingram is a shooting guard from Indianapolis who helped his high school team win back-to-back conference championships and a state title in 2010.
Clemmons is a 6-foot-1 point guard from Lansing, Mich. Coach Fran McCaffery said Clemmons will give the Hawkeyes flexibility in the backcourt.
Meyer is a 6-foot-10 center from Georgia. He averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and 3.5 blocks for Northview High last season.
